Статья посвящена юбилею известного отечественного библиотековеда Ю. П. Мелентьевой. Рассмотрены этапы её жизненного пути, учёба в Московском библиотечном техникуме и Московском государственном институте культуры. Названы факторы, оказавшие влияние на выбор библиотечной профессии. Обозначен вклад Ю. П. Мелентьевой в отечественное библиотековедение.

The article is published to celebrate the jubilee of Yulia P. Melentyeva. The author examines the stages of her life and professional career, beginning from her study at Moscow Library College and Moscow State Institute of Culture. The factors that influenced the choice of library profession are mentioned. Melentyeva's contribution to the national library science is emphasized.
