Non-book collections within the structure of information resources of modern science library. The RNPLS&T’s experience

The authors examine the value of non-book collections of science libraries as a significant component of modern library services. In the recent period, the libraries have been developing new strategies comprising various library-user interaction modes, with non-book collections increasingly demanded.
The authors analyze how these collections contribute to new library users acquisition and the more dynamic and inspiring library vibe. This offers new opportunities for educational and research activities, utilization of library information resources, and personal communications. The authors offer the examples of non-book collections to demonstrate their potency for organizing events, xhibitions and educational programs as accelerators of critical thinking and creativity.
Besides, the authors emphasize that it is important to adapt library services to the changing societal demands in the context of globalization and digitalization. Integration of non-book collections expands access to resources and information and facilitates libraries transformation into the hubs of social interaction and innovations. Thus, the non-book library collections are not just the fashion – they are essential for the libraries to stay demanded and relevant in the fastchanging world. The digitized collections have become a component of the new discipline of e-librarianship.
