The conclusions on using functional modeling results for library processes modernization are presented. The authors prove that such functional models make the basis for efficient information services. The study was accomplished at Valuy district Intersettlement Library, Belgorod Oblast, Russia.

Library service organization in Vietnam universities is examined; due to information technology implementation library information centers are being established. Specific functions of the university libraries are revealed; the legislative and regulatory framework is analyzed.

The exhibitions of patents and “the czar’s privileges” held by the Patent Documentation Department of RAS Siberian Branch State Public Library for Science and Technology are discussed. The efficiency of the reading room displays both in traditional and interactive formats is examined; the increase in visitor numbers at such exhibitions and user loans is emphasized.

This article considers the features in statistics of library website traffic that includes a deal of bots of about 85%. It has been assumed that the features may be interpreted in terms of quantum uncertainty principle. A conclusion has been made that application of computer technologies to provide an access to information sources and, at the same time, to log the demand for the information on the Internet has a result that dramatic distortions and possible tweaks in the figures may occur at the discretion of somebody.

The potential of university library websites for library humanistic mission realization is examined. The Internet-activities of Central Chernozemny Regional Methdological Amalgamation are discussed. The author concludes on the necessity to increase humanistic content of the university library websites.

Main vectors of improving friendliness of using search interface of digital and full-text catalogs at Siberian State Medical University Research Medical Library are discussed. Main tasks and solutions to increase attractiveness of the bibliographic sources for users are defined. The design technology for medical researchers’ personal pages with computerized publications list-building with IRBIS and technologies of their linking to digital and full-text catalogs are introduced.

The author argues that e-books should be considered within the context of the traditional book culture and that the principle of usability being applied to e-books will enable to obtain quality electronic book product. The author also argues that for this purpose, the principle should be implemented systematically and determined by reader target auditorium and intended use.

The rare book collections of medical and other libraries, including national libraries, are described in detail. The history of these libraries is reviewed briefly. The vectors of book collections and rare book collections development are named. The above collections of all such libraries are analyzed.

The author explains why, in his opinion, the academic special field “Library information activity” is named mistakenly. He stands for another title, namely “Library and information activity”.

The author’s concept of library education is introduced; she also contributes to the ongoing discussion on improving librarians training during the transition to the fourth generation education standards. The need for strategic analysis to define target competences and information library education content is emphasized. The results of library profession competence decomposition are analyzed; the author’s related practical pedagogical experience is discussed; recommendations on defining library profession content in the information society are given.

The fifteen-year experience in teaching the discipline “Information and bibliographic culture” at Chelyabinsk State University is discussed. The University librarians are involved in the discipline schedule design. The authors examine both positive and negative aspects of the discipline distant teaching.

The article is dedicated to the memory of Boris Elepov, Director General of SPLS&T SB RAS.The key stones of his life and work are highlighted, in particular his activities as ahead of the major academic library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
