The article presents the results of a study on the use of reading strategies among students of the information and library faculty The developed method is based on the types of reading (by purpose and methods), information resources necessary for each type. The types of “reading for educational purposes” in this strategy are arranged according to their priority: for undergraduate students, first comes educational, then general cultural, self-educational, scientific and leisure reading; for graduate students – scientific, educational, self-educational, general cultural and leisure reading. It was revealed that the differentiation of “reading for educational purposes” is a condition for the implementation of a strategic approach in the formation of the reader’s competency for the future librarian, and allows one to successfully master all the competencies necessary for professional activity and the development of a holistic system of training library staff on a single conceptual basis. The authors reveal the methodology of working with types of reading separately for undergraduate and graduate students. The experimental results of control and experimental groups of students are given. Particular attention is paid to the relationship of reading types with the generated competencies required by future library specialists. The article is intended for teachers and specialists in the field of library and information activities.

Review of the book: Mazuritsky A. M. Libraries in the years of Great Patriotic War: A learning guide. – Orel, 2020. – 139 p.
The reviewed textbook introduces to the history of Russian librarianship during the Great Patriotic War. The structure of the manual is overviewed. The didactic analysis demonstrates the presentation logic which facilitates learning and is of great ethical educative value. In terms of scientific discussion, recommendations are given for further development of this subject scope to cover the following issues: 1) library support facilities for high morale and combative mood of the Red Army (the front-line and navy libraries); 2) library support of healing and bibliotherapy (hospital libraries); 3) library and information support of promising research and development projects (scientific and technical libraries of plants and factories); 4) libraries in the system of cultural, educational, moral and psychological support for the residents of blockaded Leningrad; 5) library support of high morale of the population and its faith in the victory over the enemy. The significance and relevance of the learning guide is emphasized. The reviewer recommends to prepare a textbook on the history of library construction during the Great Patriotic War.

Yu. Stolyarov’s contribution to studying N. A. Rubakin’s legacy is emphasized. This publication is a unique, large scale study of Nikolay (Nicholas) A. Rubakin’s comprehensive creative and social activities as a library scientist, bibliographer, bibliognost, expert in psychology and sociology of reading, science communicator, talented writer, educator and a person of encyclopedic knowledge. The author’ respectful and efficient use of the research potential of dialectical approach enables to prove, at the substantial methodological level, the viability of Rubakin's main scientific brainchild, the theory of bibliopsychology based on an objective research framework and an unprecedented empirical findings. For the first time, the monograph author introduces significant factual and documentary evidence into scientific discourse, and proves that the method developed by Rubakin interrelating the book and the reader was ahead of time by a century. The influence of N. A. Rubakin’s predecessors, his teachers and students and their contributions to the theory and methods of bibliopsychology are discussed. Rubakin’s bibliopsychological portraits of prominent figures of his time are also of great scientific and historical value. The reviewers emphasize that Yu. N. Stolyarov’s monograph enriches significantly the library science, and is to facilitate further understanding of N. A. Rubakin’s contribution to the world book culture.
